HIGH PERFORMANCE UNIT UP AND RUNNING!

May 07, 2026 317 Views

After a busy season for the U14s, 20 players attended the first High Performance Unit Screening & Summer Programme kickoff on Thursday night in the gym. The session was led by Shane Dalton (Head Athletic Therapist, Suttonians) and supported by India Dalton, Karylle Cabreza, and Meisha Johnson. Shane began the evening by introducing the players to the journey ahead, highlighting the importance of functional movement, its role in injury prevention, and how it contributes to overall player development. The group was then divided into three smaller groups and rotated through a series of functional movement screenings. These included squat assessments, in-line lunges, broad jumps, and countermovement jumps. The session concluded with a 1km run to assess the squad's aerobic fitness. All results were recorded and will serve as the foundation for the HPU database moving forward. Individualised summer programmes will be designed based on these results, with a re-test scheduled for late August to measure progress and improvement. This initiative stems directly from key feedback gathered during the town hall meetings held in late January and marks an important step in the development of our Player Pathway. This is just the beginning of a series of exciting player pathway initiatives planned over the coming weeks and months. A huge thank you to Shane and his team for delivering such a smooth, engaging, and informative session.
