Andy Johnston
Presidents Welcome

Dear Fellow Suttonians,
It is an absolute privilege and honour to be elected President for season 2025-2026.
I would like to welcome everyone to Station Road – players, coaches, parents, sponsors, guests and of course all our visiting teams for what I hope will be a successful 101st season for the club.
We had a wonderful season in 2024-25, celebrating our Centenary season both on and off the pitch and will complete the Centenary year with hopefully more enjoyment and success. We had a decent season in Leinster League 1a last year, with a young squad, starting well but tailing of towards the end of the campaign.
I would like to congratulate our new Captains for 2025-26, Simon Feeney (1st XV) and David Johnston (2nd XV) respectively. Both Simon and David have been at Suttonians their entire rugby careers, very experienced 1st XV players and represent the player pathway we wish to achieve in every young player coming through our Club from MY Suttonians.
Simon has amassed over 70 appearances for the first XV, is a Leinster Junior representative and part of that first St Fintans team to reach a Leinster Schools Senior Cup. His wealth of experience and commitment bode well for his stint as Club Captain. I can’t think of a better man for the job.
This year we welcome new Club coach in Brian Collins, who has hit the ground running and seems to have settled in well with the 1st and 2nd team squads. The numbers at training have been very good so far and as we come close to the first games of the campaign, I would like to wish Simon, David, Brian and their teams the very best of luck for the season.
Our underage MY Suttonians boys and girls teams are now taking shape and I wish the young players, their managers and coaches well for the coming season and we certainly hope it is as successful as last year. Our involvement with St Fintans continues to be a significant aspect to the Club and with Jack Aungier winning his first Senor Ireland cap this summer, we can clearly see the fruits of the combined Suttonians, MY Suttonians and St Fintans efforts down the years.
The Club is very fortunate to have a band of dedicated volunteers at the Club, both on the Senior and MY Suttonians side and I would like to thank them sincerely for their ongoing contribution. Without you a Club like this would never survive. Thank you all.
Our Club continues to have great sponsors and I would like to thank all of them for their ongoing support across all aspects of the Club. I would particularly like to acknowledge the continued support of WIndor Nissan, which is now into its 15th season. Sponsors, we are immensely grateful to you all.
We are all aware of the ongoing efforts of the Development sub-committee. For obvious reasons much of this work is not visible, is sensitive and requires time and can be very frustrating for many trying to keep the Club going. I am very hopeful we will soon start to see the fruits of those efforts.
The various Committees have now been tasked with ensuring we have the right strategic vision and operational plans to support and guide that Club Development when its starts. In advance I would like to thank the members of the Executive, Management and our Rugby Committees for their ongoing hard work and I look forward to working with them to help guide the club through what will be a challenging season ahead.
We need our members, young and old, to be active and support the various activities at the club. All are welcome to come down and support all of the teams, attend a lunch, have a coffee or drink in the bar with friends. We’d love to see you.
Finally, I would like to wish all of our teams the best of luck and I am looking forward to a great season of rugby.
